Georgetown Connected Academics and the Cawley Career Education Center are pleased to present two workshops for humanities graduate students interested in employment beyond academia.

The workshops, led by Career Education Center specialists, are free and open to any Georgetown graduate student or adjunct in a humanities discipline. They will last 75 minutes, and will cover a variety of topics to help graduate students in the humanities capitalize on their strengths as humanities scholars as they prepare to apply to jobs outside academia. These topics will include:

  • How to convert a humanities CV into a resume
  • How to write an effective cover letter for non-academic jobs
  • What to expect in non-academic job interviews
  • How to network and make the most of a career fair as a humanities scholar.

Cawley Career Education Center resume specialists will be on hand at the end of each workshop for consultations on resumes and cover letters, so attendees are encouraged to bring CVs or cover letter templates to workshop.

Attendees are also encouraged to register for Beyond Academia: Georgetown University’s Inaugural Career Fair for Humanities Scholars, taking place on May 24, where they can put to use the skills they learn in the workshops.

Will the two workshops cover different content?

No. Each workshop will cover the same content, so you only need to attend one.

Yes, absolutely. And we welcome Georgetown affiliated adjunct instructors who are interested in careers beyond academia as well.

Am I welcome to attend if I’m not sure I’ll be looking for a non-academic job?

Yes, absolutely. The workshops may help answer many questions you might have about what sorts of non-academic jobs there are and how you might be a good fit for them. For additional information, you might also consider attending Beyond Academia: Georgetown’s Inaugural Career Fair for Humanities Graduates

Are the workshops free?

Yes.

Do I need to register for the workshops?

No.

Should I bring anything to the workshops or do anything to prepare for them?

We encourage attendees to bring academic CVs and cover letters to workshop in consultation with Cawley Career Education Center staff, who will be on hand after each workshop.

Are there any upcoming career fairs where I can put the skills I learn in the workshop to use?
